Gina Farrell. B.Ed., B.Ed. Grad. Dip. (Online Learning and Teaching diploma) MEdL Candidate,
Grade K/1 teacher, Sandowne Elementary School, Campbell River, BC.
Hello,
My husband, David, and I live with two of our four children and numerous critters on a two-acre hobby farm in the beautiful Comox Valley. I was born, raised and have lived my entire life in rural North Courtenay. My children, Mariah, Maddisen, Lauren and Liam are the 4th generation on my father's side to grow up in this beautiful Valley.
I currently teach Kindergarten at Sandowne Elementary school in Campbell River, BC. I have been teaching in the public school system at Sandowne for the past 5 years. Prior to this, I was an Early Childhood Educator and stay-at home-mom; before deciding to go back to university and obtain my Bachelor of Education degree from Vancouver Island University. In 2016 two colleagues and I embarked on our journey to complete our Masters in Education- Leadership (MEdL) after completing a diploma in Online Learning and Teaching (OLTD.) The three of us could see how technology enhances student engagement and personalization. I particularly wanted to delve into how a blended learning model could be utilized to support primary students learning to read.
When I am not teaching or learning myself I enjoy many hobbies. On our 2 acre property we enjoy our large vegetable garden, fruit trees and berries as well as, our flock of chickens and a few crazy guinea fowl. Gardening has become a family affair with our grown children helping with upkeep and the harvest. Walking with our two dogs in our wonderful neighbourhood or sitting on the patio with a good book remain my "favourite things." I also enjoy partaking in many crafts such as crochet, felting and creating wooden toys for my classroom.
